The union went to court over teachers’ salaries

On April 17, 2014, the Trade Union of Education and Science of Ukraine filed a lawsuit to cancel the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of March 25, 2014 No. 88 « On amendments to paragraph 1 of the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of March 23, 2011 No. 373 « and No. 89 » On Amendments to Clause 1 of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of September 30, 2009 No. 1073 « . The union notes that with these resolutions the Cabinet of Ministers changed the amount of allowances for teachers of educational institutions for the prestige of work, as well as librarians for special working conditions from fixed – 20 and 50 percent, respectively, to the so-called « flexible » – from 0 to 20% or up to 50%, which significantly worsened the conditions of remuneration of teachers. «  » As a result of the Government’s decisions, the salaries of teachers, educators, teachers and other teachers will be reduced from 278 to 474 hryvnias, « the union said. That such a decision by the Government is contrary to the 1966 UNESCO / ILO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers on special attention to the remuneration of teachers, which should be commensurate with the importance of teaching in society and commensurate with wages paid to workers in other professions who have similar or equivalent qualifications. Teachers’ salaries will increase depending on the category
